File Facts will explain what file extensions are and the program using it. Everything you do on a computer is directed by the extension attached to it. No matter what it is, it has an extension. Your computer reads the extension to know what to do with that file. Every program has its own special extension. This is why you can click on a file stored in "My Documents" and it will automatically open the proper software program. The last 3 letters of the file name, preceded by a period, is the extension (.exe).
Click on the letter of the file extension that you would like
information about.
If you find a program not listed in our library, send it to us by
way of our E-Z Submit Form.
Here is a screenshot of the "Folder Options" settings that are
located in your "control panel." This is where you can view all of
the file types registered with your machine. You should not edit
these unless you really know what you are doing - 'cause you can
create a lot of errors for you to work out later. But on the other
hand, if you are getting the error messages relating to "opens with"
associations with documents or programs, this can be a place to sort
those out.
